Cape Barren Goose (Cereopsis novaehollandiae)
Application for Scientific Permit – Available for Public Comment
Public comment on the following application for a Scientific Research (Fauna) Permit is open until 12 March.
Visual ground surveys around Flinders Island will be conducted by two people either from a vehicle or from a vantage point in which the viewable area will be surveyed using binoculars, and the geese counted from as far as you can see, with no walking into the flock so as not to disturb the geese.
Unmanned aerial vehicle surveys will simultaneously be conducted overhead in which the drone will perform either a quick scan over the top of the flock whilst taking photos, or if the flock is small enough a single photo will be taken from a suitable height in order to minimise potential disturbance.
We will be using a DJI Phantom 4 Pro with onboard visual camera and operating in accordance with the TerraLuma-UTAS ReOC.
