- From a boat, you can also catch barracouta, morwong, mullet, bastard trumpeter, pink ling and silver trevally.
- Macquarie Harbour is the only waterway in Tasmania where recreational gillnetting is allowed at night. Netting is not permitted in the internal areas of the harbour to protect the endangered Maugean skate.
- Macquarie Harbour entrance is a no gillnetting area to protect Little Penguins.
- Great surf-fishing action is available off Ocean Beach or at Macquarie Heads with catches including Australian salmon, mullet and gummy shark.
