Local fishing facts
- From a boat, you can also catch barracouta, morwong, mullet, bastard trumpeter, pink ling and silver trevally.
- Macquarie Harbour is the only waterway in Tasmania where recreational gillnetting is allowed at night. To protect endangered Maugean skates, netting is not allowed in the harbour's internal waters. If you catch a Maugean skate, release it as quickly as possible.
- Macquarie Harbour entrance is a no gillnetting area to protect Little Penguins.
- There is great surf-fishing for salmon, mullet and gummy shark at Macquarie Heads or Ocean Beach.
