What will I catch from shore?
- Australian salmon, mullet, sand flathead, whiting, pike and cod.
Local fishing facts
- From a boat you can also catch silver trevally, snapper, bluespotted flathead, snook, pike, blue warehou, tailor, gurnard, barracouta, mako and gummy shark (outside the shark nursery area).
Several species of large flathead are caught ini this area. Identify them by the size of the gill cover spines and their tail markings. Flathead have good survival rates if you handle them gently and use a fish de-hooker.
- Port Sorell is a
Shark Refuge Area. No taking of sharks, skates or rays other than elephantfish.
- Recreational gillnetting is not allowed in the Port Sorell estuary. Commercial gillnetting is being phased out of this estuary with only two fishers allowed to fish.
