Live Fish Imports

In Tasmania there are various pieces of legislation involved to varying degrees in the regulation of importation requirements for fish.  Primary legislation affecting fish imports include the Animal Health Act 1995, which regulates for the risk of disease introduction and spread in animals, and the Inland Fisheries Act 1995, which regulates for the introduction and spread of pest fish species.

Other legislation that can have a bearing on fish imports include the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995 and, to a lesser extent, the Nature Conservation Act 2002.

To assist importers in understanding and addressing all the legal requirements specific to them and the type of fish they intend to import, this section of the website has been divided into two parts:

Freshwater Fish

and

Marine Fish
