The Tasmanian Government has declared a State of Emergency and
tough border restrictions are in place
All travellers arriving in Tasmania will be required to enter quarantine on arrival in Tasmania.
Tasmanian residents, except for residents of King Island, Flinders Island and the Furneaux Group, will be able to complete their quarantine at their residence.
All other non-essential travellers arriving in Tasmania will be required to enter quarantine in government provided accommodation for 14 days.
All travellers coming to Tasmania must complete an Arrivals Form.
Travellers can print and complete the form and bring it with them or it can be completed on arrival to Tasmania. Please do not scan and submit the form electronically.
Please note: Updated information for
maritime crew is now available.
Some travellers arriving in Tasmania will meet the criteria to be considered an Essential Traveller.
How to apply
If your application for Essential Traveller status is on the basis that quarantine would lead to unusual, undeserved or disproportionate hardship, please fill in the Compassionate Grounds Application Form and provide evidence to support this claim, such as a medical certificate.

For all other applications, fill in the form below and provide supporting evidence, such as a letter from your employer or your client.
Please only submit an application if you intend to travel in coming days.
Email your completed form to
- do not send completed arrivals forms to this email. The arrivals form must be completed in hardcopy on or before arrival in Tasmania.
When will I hear back about my application?
You will receive a letter or email from the State Controller, advising you of the decision about your application.
Please note: there is a two-to-three-day turnaround (minimum) on processing applications.
Incomplete applications or applications that do not have the required supporting documentation will be delayed in processing.
Note: Applications for Essential Traveller are dealt with in priority order, based on arrival date. All applicants undergo a comprehensive assessment. The timeframe to complete the assessment may be affected in some circumstances by the need for further supporting information. All applications are triaged to ensure that emergency requests are addressed as quickly as possible.
If your application has not been assessed and approved by the time you arrive in Tasmania, you must begin the mandatory 14 days of quarantine until your application has been approved.
