The $1.5 million Water for Profit program will
ensure farmers are equipped with the right skills and information to
increase profits and sustainability from their investment in
The program delivers research, development and
extension services directly to farmers providing more opportunity for
access to the latest research, developments and knowledge. It also aims
to better align research, development and extension activities with the
needs of farmers.
Water for Profit is a four-year program consisting of four projects:
- Farmer groups for peer-to-peer learning networks
- Irrigation and cropping decision support tools
- Soil management practices under irrigation
- Soil mapping information to assist with land-use planning and investment decision making
program will work with farmers in key areas to benefit regional
communities where there is new or increased access to irrigation.
for Profit will provide farmers access to the new technologies and
online tools relevant to their properties being developed through the
Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture, detailed land management information through Tasmanian Irrigation's farm water access plans, and digital soil mapping from DPIPWE.
Farmers will lead and set the priorities for future
irrigation research and development, in collaboration with
program partners, through support provided by the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers
Association (TFGA), industry groups and agricultural consultants.
