Organic farms can be found statewide with enterprises ranging through all agricultural sectors. Although there are approximately a dozen large businesses, the majority of organic farms remain small-scale operations. According to the 2017 Australian Organic Market Report, Tasmania has 79
certified organic producers, farming a total of 4,003 hectares.
Organic farming is expanding in all sectors and Government and Industry are working together to support all level of operations in this unique sector. The normal conversion period from conventional to organic farming is three years.
