Flights by Tasmania Parks & Wildlife Service and Commercial Operators in the TWWHA

Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) has completed a report on the flights by the PWS and commercial operators within the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area during 2019.

The report was produced in response to a request made in 2020 by the Australian Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment for PWS records and other information on regularly used PWS flight paths in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area (TWWHA), as well as any held information on tourist flights within the TWWHA.

The request forms part of the Public Environment Report request (Section 3(k)) for a “summary of known helicopter/aircraft use within the vicinity of the proposed action and other similar areas in the TWWHA, including aircraft type, flight, duration and frequency, and altitude”.

This report is being released to inform the public ahead of a Public Environment Submission by the proponent of a tourism development at Lake Malbena.

The findings from this report will also be critical to informing the development of an Aircraft Access Policy for the TWWHA which is a key priority identified in the Tourism Master Plan for the TWWHA.
