Water Management Plan
The Great Forester Water Management Plan was adopted on 30
July 2003 and took effect on 13 August 2003.
The purpose of the Plan is to provide a framework for managing the water
resources of the Great Forester River Catchment in accordance with the
objectives of the Water Management Act 1999.

Formal Review of Plan
Pursuant to a decision of the Resource Management and Planning Appeal Tribunal on 11 November 2003, the Plan is to be formally reviewed in accordance with Section 34 of the Water Management Act 1999, three years after its endorsement by the Minister for Primary Industries and Water.
In line with that decision, the Department of Primary Industries and Water commenced the review of the Plan in late 2006. The review took into regard the monitoring and other information collected during the first three years of the Plan's operation, and in accordance with the requirements of the Plan.

The main purpose of this document is to present a summary of:
- the results of hydrological, ecological and water quality monitoring in the Great Forester catchment since the implementation of the Water Management Plan in 2003;
- the results of additional studies that have been undertaken for the review of the Great Forester catchment Water Management Plan;
- information on water use and management, including groundwater and water development;
- results of an analysis of the effects of the Water Management Plan since its implementation on existing water users in relation to water availability.

Annual Interim Monitoring and Assessment Reports
It is a requirement under Part 2 of the Great Forester Catchment Water Management Plan for an annual review of water management and monitoring activities to be undertaken.
