Shellfish Fishery Management Plan

Public Exhibition of Management Plan for the Shellfish Fishery

Submissions must be lodged by 5 pm on 24 February 2017.
The shellfish fishery includes the management of Katelysia cockles, Venerupis clams, native oysters and wild Pacific oysters.

The Minister has directed that a formal management plan be re-made to supersede the existing arrangements which expire on 21 March 2017.

The draft management plan for the Tasmanian shellfish fishery (the Fisheries (Shellfish) Rules 2017) has been prepared to supersede the existing management plan for the fishery. As required by the provisions of the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995, the draft management plan has now been released for public exhibition and persons may submit written representations in relation to the draft management plan.

The draft management plan is now open for 60 days public exhibition. Stakeholders are invited to make written submissions to the Department by 5:00 PM on 24 February 2017. Submissions received on or prior to this time will be considered in the final preparation of the management plan and will be addressed in a report to the Minister.

The draft management plan (the Fisheries (Shellfish) Rules 2017) and a paper explaining the main changes proposed can be downloaded below. Alternatively, hard copies of the documents can be collected from the Licensing and Fisheries Monitoring Branch at the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment located on the 1st floor of the Tasplan House (formerly known as the Marine Board Building), 1 Franklin Wharf, Hobart; or by contacting the Department on 03 6165 3028.
