Popular Species

Sand and tiger flathead, squid, striped trumpeter, tuna, ocean perch, jackass morwong, elephantfish, flounder, maori octopus, Australian salmon, squid, whiting, wrasse, mackerel, barracouta, gurnard, mako shark, baitfish, yellowtail kingfish and snapper.

Local Fishing Spots

Cremorne Narrows, McGees Bridge, Lewisham, Carlton River, Primrose Sands, Dunalley Canal, Marion Bay Spit, Pirates Bay Jetty, Fortescue Bay, Port Arthur, White Beach, Nubeena and Taranna.

Points of Interest

  • Frederick Henry, Norfolk and Blackman Bays are Shark Refuge Areas. No taking of sharks, skates or rays other than elephantfish.
  • Maori octopus are known to congregate in Eaglehawk Bay where they can be caught recreationally.
  • Pirates Bay on the Tasman Peninsula is a gateway to internationally recognised gamefishing waters where large southern bluefin tuna, mako shark and swordfish can be caught.  Fishing charters are available.
