2010 Commercial Scallop Season

Whilst these has been no formal recommendation on a 2010 Tasmanian commercial scallop season, a 2010 season is looking increasingly unlikely.

However, based on 2009 survey results, the White Rock scallop bed (located near Triabunna), indicated encouraging signs of a high abundance of scallops, although at the time of the survey the discard rate (based on the size range), indicated that this bed may be marginal for a 2010 season opening.

Based on this information the Scallop FAC recommended that this bed be resurveyed towards the end of 2010 with the aim of allowing the scallop size to increase for a potential 2011 season.

There has been a 2010 season in Bass Straight that has allowed Tasmanian licensed vessels to participate in this Commonwealth managed fishery. There was a 3,000 tonne total allowable catch set for the 2010 season that closes at the end of December.
