Tasmania’s new mapping series wins National Award
TASMAP has been judged winner of the SSSi Australian National Map Competition.
With a goal to demonstrate the power of maps, the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute ran a competition to discover the best mapping products in Australia. With its new 1:50 000 Topographic mapping series hot off the press, TASMAP submitted the new Wellington map into the paper maps category of the competition to showcase the new product.
Receiving the good news from the judges, TASMAP is excited to announce that the Wellington 1:50 000 Topographic map has been judged the best paper mapping product for 2015-2016.
TASMAP began implementation of the 1:50 000 program in 2015 with the notion that it would incorporate the best features of the existing 1:25 000 and 1:100 000 topographic series. The design of the 1:50 000 map series provides a clear and accurate portrayal of topographic information, with symbols and map content giving enhanced depiction of buildings, hill shading and a simplified classification of vegetation.
The maps are available as both large format printed and digital products for use with smartphones, GPS devices, GIS software packages and Google Earth.
