Tourism Investment Opportunities in National Parks and Reserves

The initial Expression of Interest process closed on 21 November 2014.

The assessment panel will evaluate the submissions and provide recommendations to the Minister in January 2015.

The Tasmanian Government intends to call for future Expressions of Interest submissions.

On 21 June 2014 the Government started the process of realising the tourism potential in natural areas by conducting an Expression of Interest for new, sensitive and appropriate tourism experiences and associated infrastructure.

It’s specifically looking for developments which broaden the range of exciting and unique experiences on offer in our state by improving access for tourists while maintaining the integrity of our natural areas.

This will assist it to grow Tasmania’s tourism industry to 1.5 million visitors per year by 2020, which represents an additional 8,000 jobs.

The Government will initially be looking for ideas for the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area (TWWHA), National Parks and Reserves. In the longer term it will consider other State-owned land including Crown land, state forests and land adjacent to World Heritage Areas and national parks.
